π Revisiting Hummingbotβs Approach to Exchanges in light of FTX/Alameda
Since FTX was a partner of Hummingbot Foundation, we posted a Twitter thread about the minimal impact of its bankruptcy on us from a financial perspective:
Today, we're both excited to launch π this new town crier for the Hummingbot community, as well as saddened πfor everyone out there affected by the @FTX_Official and @AlamedaResearch backruptcy, especially Hummingbot users trading on FTX.

However, FTX was one of exchanges that the community voted to certify for Epoch 2, so we have spent substantial effort in supporting them, including weeks of wasted building a FTX perpetual connector.
Itβs made the Foundation re-evaluate how we should support exchanges. Currently, we spent the bulk of our bandwidth adding and maintaining new connectors, but the bulk of usage and fee share come from the top exchanges. In addition, the presence of connectors to exchanges like FTX that get hacked or rugged in the codebase may actually be harmful to our users.
After careful consideration, we have published a Notion doc and Loom video that describes our proposed solution:
Let us know what you think in the related discussion thread in the #proposals-discussion channel in Discord!
Once there is agreement around how to modify the approach toward exchanges, we plan to roll them out at the start of Epoch 3 in Jan 2023.
π€ First Botcamp cohort has started!
Weβve found that the people who are making money using Hummingbot tend to be developers who have been able to customize and create their own strategies.
Therefore, weβre starting Botcamp: an intensive, hands-on, 4-week course where anyone can learn how to create market making and quant trading strategies using Hummingbot.
This week, we will begin the first formal Botcamp cohort with all 20 seats filled. Participants will undergo an intensive 4-week course to design and build their custom trading scripts, culminating in a Demo Day in late December where they compete for fun, HBOT prizes, and open source glory!
We have started processing applications for the next Botcamp cohort, which will start in January 2023. Reserve your spot today before they are gone!
